Hetaerina is a genus distributed across most of the United States, south to the Amazon basin. One species, H. americana, ranges as far north as Canada (Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick). All told the genus contains 37 species, most of them South American. It is expected that other species will be described in the coming years.

The species shown here had its portrait made in Pichincha province, Ecuador.
