The pattern on the last several adbominal segments is distinctive to this species.

Larvae are predators on mealy bugs and aphids.

This wide-ranging species is found essentially over all the United States and southern Canada, also Bermuda and the Neotropics. It has been reported from Hawaii, presumably as an introduction with nursery stock.
