Length: 5.5 mm

 

Dilophus species have a circle of spines at the apex of the foretibia. 

Members of this genus number about 200 worldwide.  The fly shown here visited lights in Costa Rica; six species are known from Central America.  The enormous eyes reveal the pictured fly to be a male.

These flies are often seen on flowers, where they perform pollination services.
