In Poecilotylus the wing spot often appears triangular; there is a raised dark stripe in front of the ocellar plate; the palpus is rounded apically. Some fifteen species comprise this genus, distributed from Mexico to Argentina. Experts indicate the genus is likely paraphyletic, so that in the future some species may be moved to other genera such as Taeniaptera, while new species will certainly be described.
