Many Agalliopsis species are difficult to identify, but with its large "eyespots" on the pronotum Agalliopsis peneoculata is distinctive. The Latin species name means "almost eyed."

Records for this species are difficult to find, but include Ontario, Quebec, Ohio, Alabama, and West Virginia.
