Length: 7.1-8.0 mm
Johan Christian Fabricius called this species "silver" in its original description and naming. Beirne (1956) referred to it as "stramineous," or straw-colored. Ivory seems like an apt descriptor as well.
The commissure and claval suture are brown, while there is a broad, dark transverse stripe forming a shallow arc that joins the two eyes.
Beirne noted that Athysanus argentarius is a European import of the twentieth century that quickly become a common species in grasses.
