Coelidiine Leafhopper

Leafhopper image, Guyana, subfamily Coelidiinae

Family: Cicadellidae

Subfamily: Coelidiinae

A few groups within the leafhoppers routinely hold their wings outstretched like moths (genus Ladoffa is another). A species with this pose and this bright coloration, Stephen Marshall comments, "it must surely be warning predators that it is unpalatable" (Marshall, 2008).

Photo location: Rewa Village, upper Rupununi, Guyana.
