Length: 15 - 19 mm
Genus Laccogrypota contains 18 species, all of them Neotropical. Identification of members of this genus often requires examination of the male genitalia. Carvalho and Webb (2005) provided drawings of these.
L. valida is a distinctive species described from French Guiana in 1909. The specific epithet means strong or robust. Laccogrypota amazonensis is similar; it has the anterior parts red but lacks the red wing stripe.
