Stenonopa cf. cinerea, Assassin bug in subfamily Stenopodainae

Family: Reduviidae

Subfamily: Stenopodainae

Stenopoda cinerea is found from New Brunwick to Argentina. The bug shown here was attracted to lights at the lodge at Pico Bonito National Park, Honduras.

Taken together, members of the genus Stenopoda are found from New York south to the province of Santa Fe, Argentina.

Juan Carlos Giacchi, in his "Revision del Genero Stenopoda" (1969) cautions that using external features to make identifications can lead to confusion and errors. Giacchi based his revision primarily on a study of the internal male genitalia.
