Agapostemon is a genus containing 45 species distributed from Canada to Argentina. The dorsum of the head and thorax is metallic green or bluish. Often the abdomen is banded with yellow, though in some species the female has a green or blue abdomen (Griswold et al., in Hanson and Gauld, 2006).
Behaviorally, some Agapostemon species are solitary, while others engage in communal nesting.
