Twenty-eight species make up the genus Chloropteryx. They are distributed from the southeastern U.S. to Argentina, and across the West Indies.
While life history data is incomplete, at least two species feed on Mikania (Asteraceae), and one other has been recorded from plants in various families, including Winged Sumac, Eastern Hemlock, Bald Cypress, and blueberry species.
