Oospila is a speciose genus found in the Neotropics.
The generic name is Greek for "egg-spotted," referring to the shape of the abdominal markings. The species name is Latin and means "marked around the edges," referring to the purplish-brown coloration on the trailing edges of the wings.
Oospila circumsignata was described in 196 from Amazonas province, Brazil.
