The dorsal thorax is yellow with a brown stripe; the abdomen has two blue-black transverse stripes.

This species is found in the deep South of the United States, in the West Indies, the Guyanas, and south to Bolivia.  Caterpillars have been collected from members of the coffee family (Rubiaceae) but may feed on members of other families as well.  Adults nectar on the flowers of several families, primarily on Asteraceae.
