Chauliodes rastricornis

Spring Fishfly

Chauliodes rastricornis, Fishfly

Family: Corydalidae

Subfamily: Chauliodinae

Length: 30-48 mm

The male (shown) has pectinate antennae, while the female has serrate antennae that seem quite plain by comparison.

Chauliodes rastricornis ranges over most of eastern North America, from Nova Scotia to Louisiana.

Its congener, Chauliodes pecticornis, emerges in the Summer, but C. rastricornis is a Spring species. The example shown here had its picture taken in late March at Leroy Percy State Park in Mississippi.
