Ripipterygid Pygmy Mole Crickets
Grasshoppers in the family Ripipterygidae are similar to those in Tridactylidae, but the cerci are not segmented. Both families are usually dark in color, and small (under 20 mm).
Ripipterygidae has only two genera: Mirhipipteryx (3.0 - 5.0 mm in length) and Ripipteryx (5.5 mm or larger). Ripipteryx is found over much of Central America and northern South America. Mirhipipteryx is found in the same areas, but also into southern South America.
